Number of Servings

2-3 Servings

Congee

About the Recipe

This congee is ideal when you're experiencing signs of Liver Qi stagnation - like irritability, bloating, sighing, or emotional heaviness. The ginger warms and moves, while peach gently nourishes and softens tension in both body and spirit. It’s a soft landing food that doesn’t push - just invites circulation.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup jasmine rice (or white short-grain rice)

  • 4–5 cups water or bone broth (adjust for texture)

  • 1 ripe peach, peeled and sliced

  • 1–2 thin slices fresh ginger (adjust based on constitution)

  • Pinch of sea salt

  • Optional: drizzle of honey or touch of cinnamon if needed for taste or dryness

Preparation

  • Rinse rice and place in a pot with water or broth.

  • Bring to a boil, then reduce to a gentle simmer.

  • After 20–30 minutes, add peach slices and ginger.

  • Simmer until rice breaks down and mixture becomes thick and creamy (total cook time ~45–60 min).

  • Add honey or cinnamon to taste; enjoy warm

Primary Symptoms

Stress, Irritability, Emotional Constraint

Notes and Variations

  • Swap peach for apricot if you tend to run hot or feel dry in the throat

  • Add a few goji berries if your eyes feel tired or strained

  • Use more ginger if you're bloated, sluggish, or feeling foggy after meals

  • Keep it simple with just rice and ginger if your digestion is sensitive or you're recovering from stress
