About the Recipe

Use when you have a dry, scratchy, or barking cough—especially if it’s worse in the evening or after talking a lot. This remedy supports the Lungs by adding moisture and gently clearing lingering heat. Great for transitional weather or post-viral recovery.

Ingredients

  • 1 Asian pear

  • 1–2 tsp raw honey (local if possible)

  • Optional: a few goji berries or a slice of fresh ginger if you run cold

Preparation

  • Wash the pear and slice off the top (like a lid).

  • Scoop out a small cavity in the center.

  • Fill the hollow with honey (and optional herbs).

  • Replace the top and steam for 20–30 minutes until soft.

  • Eat warm — pear flesh, honey, and any liquid that collects in the bottom.

Primary Symptoms

Dry cough, sore throat, hoarseness, heat in the chest

Notes and Variations

  • Add a few goji berries if you also feel tired or dry in the eyes

  • Add a slice of ginger if the cough is dry and there's mucus you want to loosen

  • Skip honey and just steam if avoiding sweeteners or using with kids under 1

  • Works well after illness or during dry seasons like fall or late winter
